a thought on misa amane

i've always thought that it was weird how misa was so mindlessly devoted to light throughout the entirety of the death note series, and i've come to a realization on how plausible her actions are. at first glance she seems of course - just stupid for doing everything light asks of her, but now i understand to some extent why she is so manipulable by light.

recently i read a news article on a man coming back 22 years after witnessing his mother's murder to kill the murderer, as he was let off with a short sentence. after committing this crime, the man gave himself up willingly. after i read it, i felt quite sad, actually; this was the kind of incident that the judicial system or, the society tends to forget. but it is understandable why the man would do so. firstly, seeing a murder happen right in front of your eyes and not being able to do anything is traumatizing on its own, but the victim being your loved ones is even more terrible. someone who has taken care of you all your life, suddenly being ripped away from you. even worse, justice cannot be pursued. letting go and forgiving is all good, but it is true that there was injustice in how the murderer in the article, or in this case, the murderer of misa's parents was treated.

bring in light-kira, representation of what he deemed true justice. to misa, he must have seemed like a god. indeed, he did what society was able to do - that is, kill the murderer. light's actions cannot be truly justified, especially since he killed people for his own benefit (the fbi), but to misa, he was the revenge that she had always wanted.
